寓教於讀——語文教學新嘗試 -- 蘇展老師

　　「為什麼做了大量習題，孩子的語文能力仍然不見提升？」相信不少家長都存在這樣的疑問。

在學習語言的最初階段，機械式的操練無疑是夯實基礎最有效的手段。然而，中文對於絕大部分香港學生來說，絕非一門陌生的語言。使用「題海戰術」學習母語，正如讓數學系學生背因數表學習數學——無關大局。

　　孩子的語文能力薄弱，癥結在於缺乏語感。在教學中我們發現，孩子在閱讀、寫作時困難重重，主要存在閱讀速度慢、不會斷句、混淆中英語法、用詞單調、不能適應中文詞語的靈活多變等問題，而以上問題皆指向一種解決方案——閱讀。

　　閱讀，絕不僅是將文字看在眼睛裏那麼簡單。閱讀，是把自己沉浸在文字營造的世界中，把自己變成這世界中的一員，隨文本中的人物同呼吸共命運。唯有這樣，你才能體會到每一句話的情感，才會感受到每一個文字的分量，才能接觸到語言的核心……你才會發自內心地說，原來中文是那麼美麗的。

　　事實上，以文學作品進行母語教學的手段在全球各地已被廣泛採用，且成就斐然。在英國，小學生並沒有英語課本，英語教育藉由閱讀兒童文學、寫作閱讀筆記完成。學生們因此非常熱愛英語，英國文學能夠普及、傳承，歷久彌新，恰能證明這一教學方法的成功。不難推知，同樣的教學方法運用在中文學習中，能夠取得怎樣的果效。

　　必須注意的是，香港本土的中文環境——無論是中文讀物，還是中文教學——對於學生而言，都是不容樂觀的。市面上的中文書籍良莠不齊，更不用說報章雜誌用辭粗鄙的通病；學校教學仍以考試為重，偏愛應試教育這一味「速效藥」，而對「治本」的讀本教育敬謝不敏……

　　智愛中文工作室致力於打破這一僵局。經過半年的構思及摸索，我們將於2014年推出全新的「愛上語文」課程。我們為學生挑選了六十餘部文學著作，作為閱讀的「文庫」。在新的課程模式下，老師將帶領學生們共同深入研讀這些文學作品，因材施教，培養學生對中文的興趣，激發孩子創意的火花。

Bernice

我本來對閱讀並不感到很大興趣，但自從在i-Learner上Reading and Writing的課後，我現在變得很喜歡閱讀了！

老師用有趣的方法教導我閱讀的技巧，而且我發現透過閱讀不同的文章和故事能學會很多有用的生字，這對寫作有很大幫助呢！我特別喜歡閱讀文章中的人物描寫，原來可以用很多不同的方法把人物形象寫出來，令故事更為有趣。我希望能學好這些技巧，日後能創作一些科幻故事，把我腦海中想到的有趣念頭都寫出來。

我很喜歡在i-Learner學習呢！這裏的學習氣氛很好，我不會感到很大壓力，我很喜歡和同學一起討論學習到的知識。有時學校教的一些內容早已在i-Learner學過了，因此在學校學習變得更輕鬆，更容易掌握，因此我在這裏學習得很開心！

Bernice 的家長

        孩子以前的成績一般，後來聽到其他小朋友的家長向我推薦i-Learner，說這裏的課程對孩子有幫助，我考慮到這裏地點很近學校，學習挺方便的，便帶孩子來嘗試報讀一些課程。

        最初孩子選讀了Grammar和中文的課程，後來Ms Pun對孩子的表現作出評估，認為Bernice的Grammar學得很不錯，其實不必額外上課了，反而看出她閱讀理解的能力較弱，便建議她轉到Reading and Writing的課程學習。我很欣賞Ms Pun的安排，因為她真的有仔細考慮到小朋友的學習需要，這對孩子的學習有很正面的影響。的而且確，Bernice在i-Learner學習了三個多月後，我已看到她有進步，最明顯是在作文的時候，她用字的層次提升了，Grammar也表現很好，思維也見出色。同時，在i-Leaner上課有外藉老師的教導，這除了能保持Bernice的聆聽能力之外，也令Bernice的英語會話進步不少，她跟外藉老師溝通也不成問題。

        除了英文科，Bernice也一直參與中文的課程，我感到她的中文作文也進步了，沒以前寫得那麼累贅，能有更完整表達和合理的安排。她的閱讀理解也是比較弱的，而在i-Learner學習到一些閱讀的技巧後，她能掌握到一些方法，又學會不少生字，令她更懂得如何了解課文了，這對考試來說無疑是有很大幫助的。

        整體而言，我和Bernice都很喜歡在i-Learner的學習，我常常聽到她和其他小朋友在課室內笑得很開心，可見上課氣氛非常好。而且 i-Learner的課程對Bernice在學校的學習真的有很好的影響，單單以上一次測驗的表現來看，已見出Bernice的成績有很大的提升，令我對Bernice的學習放心多了！

Bernice

I did not have a great interest in reading before but, since I joined the Reading and Writing course at i-Learner, I love reading very much!

The teachers have taught me reading skills in interesting ways, and I have found that I can learn a lot of useful vocabulary through reading different articles and stories, which helps a lot in writing! I especially love to read character descriptions; it’s interesting that we can write the characters in many different ways to make the story more interesting. I hope I can learn all these skills, and then write some science fiction in the future to express the interesting ideas in my mind.

I love to study at i-Learner! The learning atmosphere here is very good. I do not feel a lot of pressure, and I like to discuss the knowledge we learn with other students. Sometimes I have learned some knowledge in i-Learner before I am taught it at school. As I have already have the basic understanding,it becomes easier for me to master the topics at school. I'm very happy to learn at i-Learner!

Bernice’s Mum

Bernice’s academic performance was not as strong as we had hoped before. Then I heard from other parents that i-Learner was good at improving school results, and they recommended the courses to me. As the location of i-Learner is convenient for us, I brought Bernice to i-Learner to enroll in some courses.

At first, Bernice joined the Grammar and Chinese courses. However, Ms Pun assessed Bernice's performance and told me that Bernice's Grammar is actually very good, and she does not need to have extra classes for that. On the other hand, Ms Pun said that Bernice’s reading comprehension is weaker, so she suggested a Reading and Writing course. I admire Ms Pun’s approach because she carefully considered the child's learning needs, which has a very positive impact on a child's learning. With three months learning at i-Learner, it is true that Bernice has made good progress! She can use more different words in writing, her Grammar is good and she has thinks clearly. Meanwhile, the teachers at i-Leaner are native English speakers and it is good to maintain Bernice’s listening skills. Bernice has made a lot of progress in English conversation; it’s not a problem for her to communicate with the teachers now.

Bernice has also taken a Chinese course; her Chinese writing has improved, too. Her writing has become more concise; she can express complete ideas with good structure. Her reading comprehension is relatively weak but, after learning some reading skills at i-Learner, she has learned a lot of new words which help her in understanding reading texts. This is undoubtedly a great help for her examinations.

Overall, Bernice and I love the learning environment at i-Learner. The children always smile happily here; the atmosphere is really good. The courses in i-Learner course have had very good influence on Bernice’s academic performance; Bernice’s results in her last exam at school were greatly improved, so I don’t have to worry about her studies anymore!
